Myopia: Defend Your Childhood We watch the movies you grew up with, you know the ones. The ones that you were so close to, that you no longer even see the problems with them when you look closely. Do they hold up? Can you defend your childhood? Every week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we put another little piece of your past on trial. Did you binge on pizza watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Cowabunga!)? Watch animated classics like The Land Before Time in your pajamas, or sing along to A Goofy Movie? Was Space Jam your jam? Were you hooked on the brothers (Super Mario Brothers, that is)? We’ll watch it and give you the verdict.

Myopia: Defend Your Childhood - A Nostalgic Movies Podcast We watch the movies you grew up with. Do they hold up? Can you defend your childhood?

  • Episode 127: The Rock (1996)
by myopia on August 17, 2017 at 4:01 am

This week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we watch your favorite non-canonical Bond movie. You know, the maniac with the crazy base and the plan to destroy a major city, the British Secret Agent who had been thrown in prison, and the handsome American agent. We watched The Rock, who gets the prom queen? How will you stand when we put your past on trial? Host: Nic Panel: Scott, Erin, and Micha […]

  • Episode 126: Anaconda (1997)
by myopia on August 10, 2017 at 3:11 pm

We did it, finally. We got to the movie that made me realize there were bad movies in the world. I was at a sleepover in 6th grade and thought this would be scary, but not only was it not scary, I laughed at the terribleness. Strange days. Anyway, this week we watched Anaconda, which, since it had Jennifer Lopez in it, the anaconda did want some, because she has buns…hon. Unfortunately, it was stymied by a pick-axe and an Ice Cube.  How will you stand when we put your past on trial? Host: Nic Hoffmann Panel: Daniel and Zack […]

  • Episode 125: Skyfall (2012)
by myopia on August 3, 2017 at 4:01 am

Man, this movie seems more recent, but after the disappointing Quantum of Solace, Skyfall returned Bond with gusto. Adele sings a brassy ballad and the audience swooned. Also, a good flick.  Host: Nicolas Hoffmann Panel: Matt, Jon, Dan […]

  • Episode 124: Animaniacs (1993)
by myopia on July 27, 2017 at 4:01 am

Hello everyone! And a special Helloooo to all the nurses…This week we start our newest spin-off and addition to the Myopia Family, Myopia Mornings. In each of these we will select a smattering of random episodes of the TV show you grew up with and give them the ole Myopia analysis. In the inaugural episode, we start the WB/Steven Spielberg classic Animaniacs from 1993, possibly the smartest and funniest kids show to date!  As season four continues, we will do a Myopia Mornings once per month! If you came just for the TV shows, there is a feed for them too! If not, enjoy this slight departure from format. I am happy to say, these projects keep our feed growing. by myopia on July 20, 2017 at 4:01 am

This week, we start Season 4 of Myopia: Defend Your Childhood! Along with some surprises along the way, we are adding a new series called Myopia Mornings, a children’s TV spinoff and we are returning to weekly episodes and I find that Excellent!  As has been tradition, we have started the seasons with the sequels to the first episode, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but unfortunately we are out, so we are moving on to sequels of the second episode, which was most triumpant. Thus, this week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we learn what George Carlin would do for coke money. We watched Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), what was so sinister at the Circle K? How will you stand when we put your past on trial? Host: Nicolas Hoffmann Panel: Matthew Quinn, Daniel, and Steve &nbs […]

  • Episode 122: Quantum of Solace (2008)
by myopia on July 5, 2017 at 4:01 am

I know, I know, you are thinking about how bad this movie is or, rather, how much you disliked it. So, thank you for even looking. It is riddled with shaky-cam, it feels rushed, and it is not crazy or campy (so bad it is good). Yet, it is brutal and at time very real. We see the death of Bond’s humanity, quite possibly. So, we watched it, why? Because it is a Bond film, of course! Host: Nicolas Hoffmann Bond: Experts: Steve, Dan […]

  • Episode 121: Commando (1985)
by myopia on June 29, 2017 at 4:01 am

This week on Myopia: Defend Your Childhood, we learn about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s acting range, from mercenary killing machine to mercenary killing machine who happens to be a good dad. by myopia on June 15, 2017 at 4:01 am

  • Episode 117: Die Another Day (2002)
by myopia on May 4, 2017 at 8:26 pm

This week we say goodbye to Pierce with one of the worst concieved Bond movies of all time, Die Another Day. From every cinematic misstep, including the American team of Halle Berry and Michael Madsen, to the “English Team” featuring Madonna’s fake accent and Pierce’s creeping Irishness, no wonder the franchise died for awhile.  Host: Nicolas Hoffmann Bond Experts: Thomas, Daniel, Jeremy, Matt […]

  • Episode 116: The Core (2003)
by myopia on April 21, 2017 at 3:38 pm

This is a disaster of a disaster movie. It is honestly terrible. It is the only time I can think of where my publisher said “honestly, I am glad I didn’t see this with you; it was boring.” However, Aaron Eckhart has a great hissy fit.  How will you stand when we put your past on trial? Host: Nicolas  Defendant: I brought it to the table, but no one defends this.  Panel: Thomas and Dan […]

  • Episode 115: The World is Not Enough (1999)
by myopia on April 6, 2017 at 2:47 pm

The only thing I need to say about this movie in order to see whether or not you remember it is “Christmas Jones.” This train wreck involves the death of Hagrid, M being kidnapped, and some serious Pierce Brosnan jaw acting.  Host: Nicolas Hoffmann Bond Experts: Jeremy, Dan […]

  • Episode 114: The Guyver (1991)
by myopia on March 30, 2017 at 10:30 pm

Oh, they noticed.  Host: Nicolas Hoffmann Defendant: Nicolas Hoffmann Panel: Madison, Daniel, Matthew Quinn, Jeremy […]

  • Episode 112: Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
by myopia on March 2, 2017 at 7:31 pm

Well, well, well. Fake news? Business taking over politics? Robotic cars? Bond in a BMW?!?!?! So fanciful! After the amazing Goldeneye, did Tomorrow Never Dies hold up? How did Pierce hold up? Will I answer any of these questions? Tune in to find out! Host: Nicolas Hoffmann Panel: Jeremy, Daniel, Jon C, Thomas […]
