Plenty of work from the mind of Stan Lee is already on the big screen in the form of comic book films like X-Men: First Class, Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and forthcoming blockbusters like The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man. However, one of the comic book creators project from overseas will be the next project to get the feature film treatment as Deadline reports Dan Gilroy, who worked on the script for Real Steel and wrote The Bourne Legacy for his brother, director Tony Gilroy, will write the The Annihilator about a Chinese superhero for Magic Storm Entertainment.
Like many other comic properties from Lee, the film follows a young Chinese man given a second chance as an international superhero who returns home to mete out justice. Lee has called The Annihilator (which is a temporary title) “the most incredibly original and unique superhero I’ve created in a long time,” but with that logline, it sounds just like every other comic book, but this one has a Chinese main character. At the very least it sounds better than The Governator, the forthcoming comic book tale with Arnold Schwarzenegger as a superhero who’s the governor of California by day and a crime-fighter by night. The film will definitely be pushed to Chinese markets as well as the rest of the world, but it’s not clear how soon this will come together, so stay tuned as more information becomes available.
